Scrolling Background (Build 1)

Scrolling Background

It’s always exciting to see the beginnings of any project start to take place. Early this week I got the first build back from the programmer. It’s a little thing, but still really neat to see your own artwork as even a scrollable background. That’s all that the build was this time, though it is a little different than I originally envisioned, in a good way.

Besides working on the visuals and concepts, I made up a simple, Flash prototype for how the paper folding mechanic could work. Hopefully it can make some sense for the programmer, though I’m not sure how well Actionscript 2.0 translates to Objective C or Cocoa.

After meeting with my professor again, he brought up the idea that this project could possibly be a full-term one instead of a 5-week one. I think that the full potential of the project is in how people interact with it so that could be a possibility. At the same time, I want to consider about my final thesis presentation too. Do I want to finish my thesis with three large projects or 5-6 smallers ones? What would an acceptable balance between quantity & quality be? While I still want to make physical projects as opposed research studies, I feel pretty challenged to strengthen my concepts after seeing some of my peers’ work. That’s a good thing though & one of the reasons I chose to stay in this graduate program.
